  Hey, welcome back. The Twinkle sounds like a joy right now. I love the descriptions of all her pretend play. It’s funny all the phobias they get at this age. We were reading a book yesterday, and Teo said “I don’t like ____. They’re scary” on several pages with different animals.

  I’m glad she’s doing well at the new baby factory!

  Nicky and I have recently started doing some work for Deborah and Willy. They are launching a new album in May, we will run their social media stuff on the interwebs. The idea is to be in the places that people have conversations, so that this might get more people buying this record.

  Obviously it’s partially about the art, but art takes money and that requires record sales (or at least that’s my view of things).

  Deborah and Willy are all in favour of this social media business but they are massively busy. Given that we have the time and skills between us, Nicky and I (trading as Fat Boy Cosmo) are doing most of the day-to-day work for all these things.

  So we’ve got Deborah Conway and Willy Zygier stuff happening here and there, in the places we think people interact frequently. So far it’s all been going pretty well. Here are the things we have running so far.

  My boots are lace-ups, not the soft sided ones. I’ll pack some band-aids for me and share them with the students if I suddenly find myself feeling all caring.

  we also used to get the kids to pack lots of band-aids for blisters. you can cut the pad bit off and just use the sticky ends direct over blisters as a ’second skin’. surprisingly, this works incredibly well. works even better if you get kids to check for ‘hot-spots’ early on in the walk and band-aid them before they get too bad.

  Oops, don’t know what I did here but my comment appears to have no relevance to the above post!

  When I was teaching a million years ago they didn’t let kids bring Blundstones for hiking due to the elastic sides (there’s a small possibility you can roll an ankle.) I’ve never heard of anyone doing this, though. But runners are lighter and should do the job.

  It is possible that I am getting to be a much better English teacher or perhaps I am just plain lucky and get better classes each year.

  On account of my other duties, I only have three classes this semester and all of them are populated with nice kids who write well. Each class has a bunch of talented and fluent writers, but my Year 11s really stand out. I just read their fifteen-minute stories from Wednesday and they were a treat.

  I have never done camping like this before. I am much more used to loading up the station wagon and taking every single thing that I might want. I didn’t think that 20kg sounded like a lot, but it felt like a lot on my back when I tried in on today.
