Surprised you had to go into school today at the end of all that – you must be stonkered! Looks like a beautiful part of the world to have spent 3 days in.
My boots are lace-ups, not the soft sided ones. I’ll pack some band-aids for me and share them with the students if I suddenly find myself feeling all caring.
we also used to get the kids to pack lots of band-aids for blisters. you can cut the pad bit off and just use the sticky ends direct over blisters as a ’second skin’. surprisingly, this works incredibly well. works even better if you get kids to check for ‘hot-spots’ early on in the walk and band-aid them before they get too bad.
Oops, don’t know what I did here but my comment appears to have no relevance to the above post!
When I was teaching a million years ago they didn’t let kids bring Blundstones for hiking due to the elastic sides (there’s a small possibility you can roll an ankle.) I’ve never heard of anyone doing this, though. But runners are lighter and should do the job.
I have never done camping like this before. I am much more used to loading up the station wagon and taking every single thing that I might want. I didn’t think that 20kg sounded like a lot, but it felt like a lot on my back when I tried in on today.
Funnily enough I do generally listen to albums from cover to cover, rather than shuffling. I have playlists for neglected songs, but even those tend to play in album order…
Perhaps, even though I have two, I missed the point of the shuffle after all
I saw Crazy Heart tonight and really liked it. It starts out in a bowling alley, which is a nice nod to Big Lebowski, and it’s more than a little bit country.
In line with this idea, last night I listened to Deborah Conway and Willy Zygier’s Summertown while I did the dishes. Today as I drive to work – inspired by your comment, Emma – I am planning to listen to the one Clare Bowditch album that I have, The Moon Looked On.
My top5 albums from cover to cover are-
Central reservation – Beth Orton
Do little – The Pixies
Grace – Jeff Buckley
Fight for your mind -Ben Harper
Lips like oranges – Clare Bowditch
Mark,
I am still reading, but I think your change idea is important because it makes being an outlier more accessible to anyone, rather than believing that it is not possible.
I’d certainly recommend that you read the whole book, since my snapshot was pretty quick and somewhat subjective. Having said that, and I know this is obvious, trust your judgement above anything that you read in a book.
Sounds fascinating. Going to try and get a copy of the book. Point No. 2 is concerning me (as we are still messing about at J’s school re: grade placement.)
